Rest of the Ribs

Four completed back ribs. 18 flap ribs and 16 aileron ribs ready for alodine and priming

To polish the two smallest lightening holes, I took a 1" scotchbrite wheel, drilled the center hole to 1/4", cut it in half, and turned it down to 5/8" using my belt sander while the wheel was spinning on the buffer. To polish and deburr the slots on the flap nose ribs, aileron nose ribs, and aileron pocket ribs, I cut a hard felt polishing wheel I had using a utility knife while the wheel was turning. With a little mild abrasive, it worked very well! I think it would even work to polish the flange edges on all of the ribs. These wheels aren't nearly as expensive as the scotchbrite wheels.

To accurately locate the 3/4" balance tube hole in the aileron nose ribs, I made a simple jig using 1/4" dowel drilled into a piece of MDF using the appropriate jig pin spacing. I was able to drill both right and left using the same jig. I used a 3/4" spade bit which makes a nice cut and doesn't leave much of a burr. All flap nose, aileron nose, and aileron pocket ribs ready for alodine and priming

There's quite a bit of distortion on the tip ribs after flanging. But it straightens right out!
